Verra, a leading standard-setter for the voluntary carbon market, has partnered with the Climate Crisis Advisory Group (CCAG) to enhance the scientific foundation and trustworthiness of carbon credits. This research alliance will assess the Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program’s impact on climate, biodiversity, and social factors. CCAG, comprising global climate experts, will review and conduct new research to ensure the carbon market adheres to best-practice science. As the climate emergency escalates, this collaboration aims to refine the VCM, aligning it with the urgent need for credible climate action. Verra’s commitment to transparency and continuous improvement is underscored by initiatives such as digitalizing project cycles and updating methodologies, with research results anticipated in Q2 2024.
Verra and the Climate Crisis Advisory Group (CCAG) are proud to announce a new research partnership to support the continuous improvement and ongoing development of the voluntary carbon market (VCM) as a key climate action tool. In its initial research piece, CCAG will employ its global experts to review existing research, conduct new analysis and seek external input to determine how best-practice science can support lasting trust in the VCM.
