Croatia’s Public Buildings Set for Green Overhaul with €73.8 Million Energy Renovation Contracts

At the National and University Library in Zagreb, a significant step towards energy efficiency and climate preservation was taken with the presentation of 30 contracts for the energy renovation of public buildings. With a total value of €73.8 million, half of which is funded by grants, these contracts will enhance the energy performance of hospitals, schools, and other public buildings. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković lauded the competitive and well-prepared projects, highlighting the role of EU funds in the government’s policy for digital transition, decarbonisation, and education investment. Deputy Prime Minister Branko Bačić underscored the initiative’s alignment with Croatia’s goals for energy self-sufficiency and climate goals. Additionally, plans to extend energy renovation efforts with an extra €60.18 million were announced, ensuring the continuation of these eco-friendly investments. Minister Davor Filipović emphasised the government’s support for citizens’ energy independence, mentioning substantial funds for photovoltaics and energy renovations, which will contribute to Croatia’s energy security and clean energy transition.

The 30 contracts worth in total EUR 73.8 million, of which EUR 36.44 million is grant funding, were concluded for the energy renovation of hospitals, clinics, schools, and other general purpose public buildings. The Energy Efficiency Sector of the Fund provided technical support to applicants, and the Fund’s Intermediate Body will control further implementation of contracted projects.
