Verra has announced a groundbreaking forest conservation methodology under its Verified Carbon Standard Program, aiming to enhance emission reduction calculations for forest conservation. This new approach, which is in line with the Paris Agreement, promises to usher in a new wave of global investment in nature protection. The methodology, developed since 2020, addresses REDD activities, from combating illegal logging to fostering sustainable community livelihoods. It utilizes advanced remote-sensing and risk assessment to set baselines at the jurisdictional level, increasing consistency and quality control while supporting government efforts. This methodology is expected to boost market confidence in REDD projects, ensuring their contributions to climate action are meaningful and credible. The transition plan for existing projects and the future path for Core Carbon Principles labeling were also outlined by Verra.
